Kanzen...
Kanzen...
‘Kanzen’, was created in May 2013 as part of “Art in the Garden”. An outdoor sculpture exhibition in collaboration with artist Amy Lanyon, held at the lost Gardens of Heligan.
Meaning completeness in Japanese, ‘Kanzen’ is a simple and textural cob sculpture.
An organic, circular and feminine form, the sculpture reflects on how simplicity and a down to earth connection to nature can bring a sense of happiness and completeness to life.
The sculpture was specifically sited in-front of the remains of the old cob building, highlighting a traditional sustainable building technique.
Wonderfully assisted by my nephew and a good friend, the sculpture is constructed of natural materials, using the wattle and daub method of building. Sub soil was mixed with water and applied in generous handfuls. Great fun was had squeezing it between and over the willow lattice work.
Kanzen was then left to dry in the sun. With no roofing the sculpture will weather and change over time...
